Reconstruction of Shore Road
The reconstruction is part of the current NYC capital budget according to Queens Borough DOT Commissioner Maura McCarthy. Permanent reconstruction is scheduled for the autumn of 2012.
The reflectorized water-filled barriers on Shore Road at Bayview Avenue and Manor Road were installed by the NYCDOT to channel traffic away from the west side of Shore Road at the two locations.
The DMA Office
The DMA Office was established by a membership vote to centralize operations and improve the ability to communicate with the membership.
The DMA office is conveniently located across from the LIRR Station on the north side. The address is 234-21B, 41st Ave and its phone number is 718-225-3111. Weekday office hours will be from 10:00am to 5:00pm. During these hours the office will be staffed and open to members. The DMA Secretary, Jamie Sutherland, grew up in Douglaston, attended Columbia University, and is a Douglaston Club member.
The garden space behind the office has been beautifully landscaped by volunteers, including Hope Wright (GreenSpace4U@aol.com) our local Landscape Designer and several others. Plantings were donated by Keil Brothers. Neighboring businesses Vytis Travel and MacKay, Wrynn and Brady, whose building border the garden, helped to fund the landscaping.
DMA Anchorage
Applications to moor a boat in the DMA Anchorage will be available in March 2012. Please send an email with your mailing address to office@dmanyc.org to receive an application package.

The Sea Wall
The Douglas Manor Seawall adjacent to Little Neck Bay starts at the dock and runs north to approximately the point of the Douglas Manor [DM] peninsula, a distance of 1800 feet. The wall protects the western shore of the peninsula within the tidal ranges and is high enough to sustain higher water levels caused by storms. The wall is built with masonry construction.
The exact date of the original construction is unknown but estimated to be in the early 20th century. In 1938 during one of the most severe hurricanes to hit New York, the wall was heavily damaged and rebuilt with pledges and donations from DMA homeowners.
As a consequence of Hurricane Rita in 2005 a portion of the wall collapsed. This occurred in the area of Bayview Ave. along Shore Road. The length of the collapse was approximately 24 feet. However, the adjacent sections to the collapsed wall have moved and will also need to be reconstructed. The total length of the reconstruction will be between 40 to 50 feet. Further, the timber tie parapet walls retaining the slope between the Bay and Shore Road are severely deteriorated and need to be replaced.
The %51,000 reconstruction cost was State funded through the efforts of former New York State Senator Frank Padavan. The Douglas Manor Association greatly appreciates his interest and efforts on behalf of the community.
